HAMRE CHURCH (Osterøy)
The beautiful church of Hamre dating back to the 1620s is located on the western tip of Osterøy. The church has a rather unusual location in the landscape as it is built to be visible from the sea, which then was the only entry to the area. Once it was a centre where to people cam rowing from all directions to worship. The church, which has the Bible texts and pictures on the walls, has an unique architecture with its proud pitch and rich furniture with beautiful carvings, as well as a font made from steatite dating back to 1250. Hamre church is one of the few wooden churches remaining in Norway from this periode, and is an unique example of the traditional West Norwegian church.
Guided tours by appointment. Please contact Osterfjord Tourist Association.
