The Osterfjord, near Bergen, is one of the most beautiful fjords in western Norway. The Osterfjord and the Sørfjord encircle the island of Osterøy, the largest inland island in northern Europe and therefore an attraction in its own right. In the old days the fjord was the main means of communication in the district, and the farmers from Voss used to transport their produce to Bergen via the Osterfjord.
Enjoy a journey through a historic landscape, from cultivated shorelines through narrow straits and estuaries between imposing mountains.

The fjord steamer MV Bruvik, also known as the “Queen of the Fjords”, is an important part of the cultural heritage of the Osterfjord district. The ship was built in 1949 specifically to serve this area, where she operated for 30 years as a combined passenger and cargo vessel in regular traffic. The vessel was designed to break through fjord ice up to 50 cm thick, in the days when the sea was the sole means of access to the area. MV Bruvik is nowadays a modern cruise vessel certified to carry up to 286 passengers.
