A journey in Osterfjord is a journey through historical landscape. The area is rich in cultural heritage, and at Straume in the district of Vaksdal you will among others find Skipshelleren, the oldest stone age dwelling in this part of the country.
Especially the island of Osterøy, with its rich and well kept cultural heritage, is well worth a visit.
Today hydro-electric energy plays an important part of the Osterfjord community. If you want to learn more about how we make use of our abundant natural resources you can visit the Energy Centre at Dale in the district of Vaksdal. Here you can see how the power from the waterfall is tamed 400 metres inside the mountain. The district of Modalen also shows several examples of how modern technology is used to exploite rivers and waterfall.
